John’s photography has been broadly published in many books and magazines including National Geographic, Life, Time, Newsweek, Smithsonian, the New York Times Magazine, and on the cover of the National Audubon Society Field Guide to Florida.

For 23 years, John was a photographer, writer, and ultimately editor of the Gainesville Sun. In 2004 he published Journal of Light: The Visual Diary of a Florida Nature Photographer, reflecting 20 years of photographs and essays.

John has photographed all aspects of Florida’s tropical environment. From the state’s flora and fauna to its wildlife, sky, and water, he has documented Florida like no one else. He brings to each subject an intimacy and clarity that only one who has carefully explored and written about the state’s environment for many years can bring.

The photographs in this exhibition demonstrate John’s technical skills, but more importantly they show a master photographer’s vision and affection for his beloved subject.
