"The Landlord" Gopher tortoise, bronze.

Though not a native Floridian, David grew up in the Low Country of South Carolina. His youth was spent observing the salt marsh areas and the pine forests of the coastal plain. He writes, “It was there I formed an appreciation for nature as an inspiration and began painting, sculpting, and teaching myself art techniques.”

Although he earned a degree in botany and had a 25-year career in public gardening, the inspiration of the natural world continued to inform his work. He works in both stone and bronze and counts among his major influences Henry Moore and Auguste Rodin.

With great attention to realistic interpretation and a mastery of technique, the sculptures in this exhibition are a testament to the diversity of wildlife populating the Lake Wales Ridge region.
